For several years now i have been using a logitech trackman marble together with a libinput tweak to use the trackball for scrolling by holding down one of the buttons while spinning the ball. The kensington orbit trackball with scroll ring typically costs a third as much as the expert mouse but has a smaller ball and offers only two buttons instead of four. Choose the trackball button you want to customize in the select button field.
